Ethics and  Governance

The integrity of a leader is a measure of the leader’s character. The development of an ethical code is one way in which a leader can hold him/her self accountable for their actions. Another way is develop a group of individuals to whom the leader is accountable. Without integrity in its leadership an organization is only a short time from collapse as has been witnessed in the fall of Enron and other organizations.

A question that is often struggled with in leadership has to do with who establishes the organization: the leader or the board. It seems to make sense that the leader establishes the vision having been empowered to do so by the board. The board has a specific role in looking at the big picture of the organization and avoiding the trap of micromanaging. On the other hand, the board must not become so distanced from the organization that it fails to notice signs that there are problems within the organization.

The Ethical Philosophy of Leadership paper will demonstrate this author’s scholarly writing on the ethics necessary in leadership. The paper is a combination of what recognized scholars in the field of ethics have to say as well as a developed plan for how the author intends to apply an understanding of what ethical behavior and leadership to the practical aspects of the same.

The Ethical Dilemma paper demonstrates how this author has applied ethical behavior in leadership as outlined in several exhibits. These exhibits will show how others perceive the author’s practice of ethics in leadership.
