Servant Leader Domain

The concept of a servant leader is based on the idea of a leader acting as servant to those under his/her influence. When one is a servant leader one keeps the needs of others foremost when making decisions. It is not about “me” but instead about those around me. Servant leadership is not weak leadership. A servant leader must at times make difficult decisions but does so in the interest of making those around him/her better.

Servant leadership is a paradigm and not simply a style. There are times when a leader out of necessity may have to act in a paternalistic, or even an autocratic, manner but still have the mindset of a servant leader. Factors causing this to happen may include time limits that do not allow a more collaborative approach to leadership.

The personal leadership philosophy paper gives evidence of the growth of this author over the course of more than two years of study. The paper includes coverage of each of the domains contained in the Doctorate in Organizational Leadership program.

The Reflected Best Self is part of the incorporation of 360 degree feedback. This paper reflects the thoughts of those who are members of the author’s family, friends and co-workers. The paper provides evidence of their perceptions of the author’s authenticity and abilities as a leader.
